The Post Best Banquet is the annual fundraiser that honors citizens and corporations who have exceeded expectations in making our community a better place to work and live. The entertaining multimedia event acknowledges ordinary people’s extraordinary accomplishments. A diverse crowd of roughly 400 people attend.
Proceeds from this event make up a large percentage of funding for the Charlotte Post Foundation’s programming efforts. This year’s gala will honor the lifetime achievements of Dr. Orphelia Garmon-Brown, Senior Vice President Community Wellness & Education, Novant Health and Steve Crump, WBTV news reporter, for his award winning documentaries. We will also honor Mecklenburg’s Top Senior of the year, Kelsey McDowell of Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology and runner-up Kaycee Hailey of West Charlotte High School for their academic achievements.
The Charlotte Post Foundation (CPF) exists to educate the Charlotte community about inequities that impact African American youth, serve as a bridge to resources and expertise, and address needs in literacy and other issues through community, corrective and continuing education. More than just an alliterative tag line, the focus on the “Three Cs” has guided the foundation’s work for more than 20 years.
The goals for each of the Three C areas of programmatic focus from of our 2017 strategic planning sessions are summarized as:
▪ Corrective education – Aspire to increase the size of its signature program serving more low-performing students at Walter G. Byers Elementary School and other CMS campuses.
▪ Continuing education – Expand the Top Seniors Program to other communities in North Carolina, generating additional revenue to support new scholarships.
▪ Community education – Scale the “Black Lives Matter Charlotte” initiative as a signature convening strategy to develop a pipeline of human resources and increased visibility for the Foundation. In keeping with these goals the foundation has over the past year sustained, expanded and improved programming to enhance our youth and engage our community through corrective, continuing and community education efforts.
